Currently, China's high dependence on imported protein supplies and the growing shortage of feed protein resources are becoming increasingly critical. Traditional farming and breeding models consume excessive resources and generate high carbon emissions, making them unable to meet the rising demand for protein. Industry forecasts indicate that by 2050, the global population will reach approximately 100 billion, with an additional protein demand of 2.65 billion tons, creating a gap of 40%. Based on China's population of 14 billion people consuming 50g of protein per person daily, China's annual protein requirement exceeds 5000 million tons.

Against this backdrop, the 15th Five-Year Plan has designated biomanufacturing as a key future industry for breakthrough development, proposing to build a diversified food supply system and actively advance synthetic biology technologies to expand novel protein sources.
